Rental services for designer handbags have been a growing business in Europe and the US, especially in these hard times.

The trend has now caught on in the UAE with the launch of an on-line service started by  Reema Al Khomeiri, offering selections from top international brands. The website also provides advice as to what to select based on the client's personal needs and taste.

Japanese designer Ginza Tanaka has created a diamond-encrusted lustrous platinum handbag worth £1 million (that's US$1.96 million, at current rates) that has gone on display around London jewelry shops. The handbag is set with 2,182 diamonds.

The display was part of the recent London Jewellery Week, which was held from 11-15 June 2009. It was put on display in June last year in Tokyo during a fashion show.
